About the Founder

As prospective students of the college, you must know the background & history of the college. Satyawati College, a constituent college of the University of Delhi was established in 1972. It has been named after a great freedom fighter "Sister Satyawati" who worked in close association with leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Jay Prakash Narayan and Sarojini Naidu. She worked tirelessly till her death at an early age of 39 years, for uprooting poverty, ignorance and communalism. She was named Satyawati by Mahatma Gandhi, for her zeal and commitment. Satyawati Devi, was an ardent freedom fighter from Delhi, who was instrumental in drawing a large number of women from their homes into the ''Civil Disobedience Movement''. She combined the zest for national liberation with the cause of freedom for women. Her inspiring speeches and acts of defiance during the time of freedom struggle embody the spirit of the College.
